Tata son’s chairman N Chandrasekaran launched the multinational conglomerate’s new super app- the Tata Neu – on 14th April 2022. The company made the announcement through a teaser image on the Google Play Store page. It had started publicly advertising the super app for the first time along with the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament. Until 7th April, the app was only available to Tata Group workers.
With Tata Neu, the company aims to combine all its digital offerings and apps (and more) under one single roof, and enable the user to “Consume cutting-edge digital content, make payments, manage your finances, plan your next holiday or perhaps just your next meal – there’s lots to explore and experience in the world of Tata Neu”, as per the app’s Google Playstore description.
With Tata welcoming back Air India after almost 7 long decades in January 2022, it will also be integrating flight ticket booking services, alongside serving grocery and medicines delivery via BigBasket and 1MG respectively. The app will also allow booking stays in Tata-owned Taj Hotels and purchasing electronics from Croma, apparel from Westside, beverages from Starbucks, and making UPI payments. And what’s better is, it doesn’t stop there! You can even make utility bill payments, all under one app! For expenditures from the app, the users will be rewarded with Neu Coins which will be redeemable on the services the app provides and would be evaluated at 1 Neu = 1 Re.
The app is being labeled as Amazon and Paytm rival as they too have their own versions of super apps, which offer a plethora of services similar to Tata Neu. The app already crossed 1 million-plus downloads within the first 48 hours of its launch, and currently has 22 thousand reviews and a 3.5-star rating on Google Play Store. However, OTP problems and login issues marred the experience and several users took to Twitter to highlight the same on the day of launch.
Why should one switch to Tata Neu from PayTM/ Amazon Pay?
Tata Neu is more than an e-commerce site like Amazon or Flipkart, or a payment facility like Paytm or Amazon Pay. The app offers a wide range of services to its customers, including payments, e-commerce, flight and hotel bookings, entertainment, and more. While Paytm handles the majority of this and Amazon offers a variety of services such as Amazon Pay for payments and Amazon Fresh for groceries, neither of these companies offers the breadth of services that Tata Neu does in one spot, such as flights and hotels.
The Tata Neu app also features a dedicated ‘Stories’ area that contains purchasing guides and IPL stories. Tata has special films and articles about IPL teams and players to entice cricket-loving fans since it became the primary sponsor of IPL 2022. Similarly, the platform provides tech and fashion guides. Users can choose between TATA IPL fever, Tech bulletin, Travel diaries, Fashion journal, and Food digest under the ‘Flip the page’ option. While perusing the services, there is also an IPL 2022 category that teases the Tata Neu Instagram page with an offer to win IPL 2022 tickets. The IPL 2022 section also includes NeuPass offers, IPL Guides, venue information, and more.
The app was at #1 in the shopping category on day 2 and remained there until the 3-month leader Meesho took over again. The app is currently behind Meesho, Flipkart app Shopsy, Flipkart, and Ajio.
The app will be focused on bringing about a revolution in the digital world and offering consumers an omnichannel experience under one roof.
